Gritty was the best description of her life in the East-End slums of London. “Clemy” was on a downward spiral. Her life began with betrayal, disappointment and a bleak future.

One fateful decision would change everything. Her determination for something better propelled her into a future beyond her imagination. From the trenches of World War I, Clemy embarked on a path filled with risk and opportunity. But could it last?

"Enough treachery and mystery to make this a fast and enjoyable read."

“Betrayal” is a vibrant novel of turbulent lives of Clemy and Jack, showing that nothing is given to last forever.  Everyone needs to be prepared both for good and unfortunate changes.  Jack and Clemy, through their passion, struggle and love achieve extraordinary results.  With their life experience they understand other people’s needs and help them as generous benefactors. The story is intriguing and captivating. After reading the book you know it was written by a great novelist.

This story is the best–my favorite novel! There is a simple reason for this; Jack and Clemy are two lone souls who found each other during World War 1
(the Great War.) If ever there were a challenging book with courage and passion, this is it! This author will do well with a sequel, I think.
Betrayal lives up to its title in ways that surprised me. Awesome way to get lost in a book.

Chip Smith is a masterful storyteller in this intriguing and suspenseful story filled with numerous surprise twists and turns. The story of Clemy begins in a ghetto in war torn England and take her from battlefields to mansions. It is a very human story of personal strength, love, betrayal, heartbreak, forgiveness and redemption. I loved every minute of this intriguing novel.

I escaped into the past and felt as though I was one of the characters in this intriguing story of love and betrayal.  Vividly written, the scenery, the experiences, the characters all come to life.  The ups, the downs, the what’s waiting around the corner.  This book left me wanting more of Clemy and Jack.

Chip Smith has created a loveable and believable heroine in Clemy who, like Eliza Doolittle, rises from the ashes of poverty and ignorance to charm her way into many hearts.  But she is not without incredible obstacles, setbacks and betrayals along the way that make her transformation into an endearing “Lady” more poignant.  Smith captured  very well the atmosphere of each setting that was part of Clemy’s pilgrimage: the slums, the hospitals, the farms, and the castles with all their believable characters.  There was enough treachery and mystery to make this a fast and enjoyable read.
